Optimal Video Size, File Formats, and Video Compression

Last updated 4 months ago

Mentortools supports almost any type of video file, including common formats like MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, and FLV. However, we recommend the MP4 file format. In the rare event that a format is not supported, a visible error will appear during the upload. All videos that are uploaded are converted to square pixels. Regardless of the format, all videos will be displayed in the correct aspect ratio.

Optimal Video Size

The maximum video size per video is 3GB.

Compress Videos

It is possible to upload uncompressed videos to Mentortools. Uploading uncompressed data takes longer and will require more storage capacity on your computer. However, there is no guarantee that uncompressed videos will have better quality than properly compressed videos. If you want to compress your files before uploading, we recommend Handbrake.

HandBrake is a program that can be used to compress and prepare MP4 videos for Vimeo. You can download it for free for Windows or Mac here. Below are recommended settings specifically for HandBrake, based on testing and user feedback.

If you have already downloaded Handbrake and are opening the program for the first time, first select a "Source" (folder) where the videos you want to compress are located. Then click on the desired video.

Once you have selected a video you would like to compress, you can then apply the following settings.

After all settings have been applied, you can click "Start" (3), and the compression process will begin. It usually takes a few minutes until the file is completely compressed.

Wishing you success and fun,

Mentortools
